Statement of Faith
What We Believe
As we serve Newbury, Thatcham and the surrounding ares we want to share what we believe, showing the transformative power of the Gospel.
One God, Three Persons
We believe in one holy sovereign God, the Creator, eternally existing in three persons, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, acting together in grace.
The Bible is the word of God
We believe In the divine inspiration of the Bible, the Word of God, and therefore its complete trustworthiness and authority in all matters of faith and daily living.
Made in God's Image, but fallen through sin
That all people without distinction are made in the likeness of God. Their chief purpose is to know, to love and to obey God. But through the work of Satan, leading to the fall, every aspect of human nature has been affected. Men and women are lost, sinful and guilty, needing to be forgiven and brought back to God.
Jesus was Fully God, Fully Man
That the Lord Jesus Christ is fully God and through the Virgin Birth, fully man.He lived a perfect life, died on the cross bearing the sins of the whole world, rose triumphant from the dead and ascended into heaven where he is exalted as Lord of all. He is the only Saviour.
Salvation by grace and faith alone
That salvation is the work of God's grace, accomplished by the Lord Jesus Christ and offered to all in the gospel. Those who believe in Jesus and come to God through Him are justified by faith, adopted into the family of God and receive eternal life.
Holy Spirit glorifies Christ
That the Holy Spirit glorifies Christ. He convicts sinners, imparts spiritual life and gives understanding of the Scriptures. He indwells all believers, imparting spiritual gifts and changing character to become like Jesus. He enables individuals and churches to serve God and people.
Unity and priesthood of all believers
In the unity and priesthood of all believers in the universal Church of which Christ is the Head, and in the local church as an expression of this, meeting for the worship of God, for preaching the Word and for mutual care and encouragement. Believers' baptism is a symbol of union with Christ. The Lord's Supper is a commemoration of Christ's sacrifice. The Church is committed to the proclamation of the gospel throughout the world.
Jesus Christ will return
That the Lord Jesus Christ will return personally in power and glory. He will judge the living and the dead. Those who have received him have the assurance of eternal life in the presence of God. Those who have rejected him face the agonising prospect of eternal separation from God. God will make all things new.
